Radical poet overthrows patriarchy by using exclusively lower-case letters
A radical poet has undermined the patriarchy and neoliberal capitalism by eliminating all upper-case letters from their work.
A radical poet has undermined the patriarchy and neoliberal capitalism by eliminating all upper-case letters from their work.
s.v.svanetjøn, recently included on Bokfienden's list of 27 writers under 27 with the potential to "blow Norwegian poetry wide open", confirmed the news in an email addressed exclusively to their "poz folks."
"tfw when shit gets real and u gt to make a stand," wrote svanetjøn, attaching a selfie taken with their cat, Humbert. *humbert, surely? -ed.*
The email received a wide range of mostly positive responses: 5 poets in svanetjøn's circle replied with a heart emoji, although one limited their feedback to a simple but devastating 'ugh'.
Pressed for a comment to get this article closer to our required word count, a pedestrian walking past the BRB offices said, "It's hard to offer an informed opinion without a more thorough knowledge of s.v.svanetjøn's oeuvre, but my initial response would be to wonder whether imitating a style first popularised by E.E. Cummings, a white male and an ardent supporter of McCarthy, is really quite as radical as svanetjøn supposes." But a random member of the public can't be expected to "get" poetry.
Meanwhile, a refugee recently rescued from the Mediterranean proved to be a firm supporter of svanetjøn's stance. "We're living in an age of unprecedented oppression," he told the Associated Press. "Hegemonic globalisation and the rise of the patriarchy are immensely damaging to society, and it's hard to see how those issues can be addressed if we persist in using upper-case letters in poetry. All power to s.v.svanetjøn!"
