The Knut Ove Knutson Prize for Crime announced its inaugural winner at a start-studded event hosted by the capacious Henrik Øl og Vinstove in downtown Bergen.

The beloved crime author endowed the prize with the royalties from his bestselling new book, Girl On The 8.17pm Tram From Bergen Lufthavn.

"I wanted to give long-awaited recognition to a group of people who provide vital entertainment for the masses but are so often disrespected by the out-of-touch elite; we all enjoy a gripping murder, but try telling the Nobel Prize committee that – they're too busy sucking up to obscure and unintelligible playwrights and poets."

For the inaugural prize, the winner of the Knutson Golden Knife was Bømlo-based first-timer Jørgen Gundersen. Collecting his award, Gundersen told the assembled press "When I killed my wife and mistress in cold blood, I never thought I'd be enjoying a selection of Henrik's beers and a voucher for free soup at Café Opera, plus 50,000Kr in cash, as my reward. Outstanding!"
